A one day workshop for Mathematics Lecturers of Udupi district was conducted in collaboration with Department of P U Education, Rajathadri, Manipal-Udupi District and The Mathematics Forum of Udupi district on 3rd August 2023 in the college auditorium of Vidyodaya Pre-University College, Udupi.
The resource persons of the workshop were Dr. Virupaksha Devaramane and Dr. Nagaraja Moorthy, Psychiartrist, Dr. A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi.
The workshop was divided into two sessions. The first session began with a prayer by the students of Vidyodaya Pre-University College, Udupi followed by the inauguration by Sri Maruthi, DDPU of Udupi district.
In his inaugural address our honourable DDPU stressed the importance of teaching Mathematics in an innovative and interesting manner, so that the students would be able to comprehend Maths easily.
Speaking on this occasion, Sri K Ganesh Rao, The Secretary, College Management Committee and the Guest of Honour of the programme, said that the teachers should discover and adopt an effective methods to face the challenges in teaching mathematics. Conducting workshops like this will always be helpful to the teachers to overcome the confusions they have in their respective subjects.
In his Presidential address Sri Jagadeesh Kumar, President of Mathematics Forum of Udupi district and The Principal of Govt P U College Perdoor, motivated all the mathematics lecturers to equip themselves with proper plans and methods to make the subject mathematics more interesting and enjoyable.
The Mathematics Forum felicitated Sri Chandrashekar Bhat, Retired Lecturer in Mathematics and Sri Uday Kumar MP, the State Level awardee for giving CET training to the Govt. P U College students.
A Homage was given to Late Rajendra Shettigar, Lecturer, Mother Teresa P U College, Shankaranarayana, who sacrificed his life while saving the life of the students who were drowning.
The Principal of Vidyodaya Pre-University College, Sri Sandeep Kumar welcomed the gathering and Sri Praveen Kumar, Govt P U College, Bajagoli proposed vote of thanks.
Smt. Sowmya Kajekar, HOD, Dept. of Mathematics, Vidyodaya P U College, Udupi was the Master of Ceremony of the morning session.
This short inaugural session was followed by the main session, the talk by the resource persons, Dr. Nagaraja Moorthy and Dr. Virupaksha Devaramane. While addressing the gathering they stressed on the importance of understanding the students; psychology in imparting education. They pointed out that better learning is possible only if there is a healthy understanding between teacher and students.
After the talk by the resource persons, there was a discussion on reduced syllabus, question paper pattern and assignment/ project topics among the lecturers which was initiated by Sri Uday Kumar M MP, lecturer Byndoor PU College and Sri Anil Kumar, lecturer, Govt P U College, Muniyalu.
Truly speaking the workshop was informative, constructive and interactive and benefited the lecturers a lot.
